Direct Line Insurance Group plc is one of the leading private motor, home and SME business insurers in the UK. It is also one of the largest travel and pet insurers in the country. With around 10,000 employees, the company owns a number of well known insurance brands including Direct Line, Churchill, Privilege, NIG and Darwin as well as roadside assistance and vehicle recovery providers DLG, Green Flag Ltd and Shotgun. The company was launched in 1985 and was the first telephone insurance company in the UK. In 2014, Mapfre bought Direct Line's German and Italian businesses. As of June 2024, the Group had a total of 9.6 million policies in-force and £5.6 billion in assets under management. Direct Line's shares are traded on the London Stock Exchange, with a market capitalization of US$2.8 billion as of November 1, 2024.
