The Royal London Mutual Insurance Society Ltd (or Royal London Group), registered in England and Wales, is the leading mutual life insurance, pensions and investment management company in the UK, with approximately 1.9 million members. It offers a range of life insurance products, critical illness cover, income protection plans, business insurance, pensions, retirement planning, asset management and advisory services across the UK and Ireland. The company was established in 1861 by Joseph Degge and Henry Rid, and today has around nine million policies in force and 4,300 employees. In 2020, Royal London acquired the Police Mutual Group and Forces Mutual, which specialize in insurance for Police Officers and the Military. For the first half of 2022, Royal London reported operating profit before tax of £109 million, gross premiums written of £580 million and claims paid of £1.1 billion.
