Elliott Investment Management L.P., based in Florida, is one of the most respected hedge funds in the world. Its core strategies are private equity and private credit, distressed and real estate-related securities, non-distressed debt, hedge/arbitrage and commodities trading, among others. Founded by Paul Singer in 1977, Elliott is one of the oldest hedge funds under continuous management. In 2018, Elliott Advisors acquired the UK's largest bookstore chain Waterstones. In 2019, Elliott completed acquisition of Barnes & Noble, the largest retail bookseller in USA. Today, Elliott Investment Management is one of the biggest activist funds. It employs around 550 people including 170 investment professionals and has over $60 billion in total assets under management (2024).
