Banco del Estado de Chile (or BancoEstado) is a state-owned financial institution providing retail, corporate, investment and private banking services to over 15 million clients. The Bank’s offerings include savings and current accounts; consumer, student and microfinance loans; mortgages, credit cards, insurance, assets and wealth management, treasury, brokerage and payment services, mobile and online solutions, and other related products. BancoEstado is the second largest bank in Chile by assets and the largest by time & saving deposits. It is also the largest issuer of debit cards in Chile and the second largest mortgage lender in the country, with a market share of over 18%. The company employs more than 16,000 people and operates in 260 communities including 150 municipalities where BancoEstado is the only financial institution. BancoEstado’s network includes over 400 branches and 2,590 ATMs (one-third of the ATMs in Chile) complemented by private ATMs (Redbanc), 120 Express offices (former ServiEstado) and over 40,000 CajaVecina point of sale units. BancoEstado New York branch was closed in 2022. BancoEstado was founded in 1953 through a merger of the following government-owned institutions: Caja Nacional de Ahorros, Caja de Crédito Hipotecario (a mortgage bank), Caja de Crédito Agrario and Instituto de Crédito Industrial. BancoEstado is one of the safest banks in Latin America according to Global Finance.
