Banks in the Netherlands

The Dutch banking sector is dominated by a few large banks which account for approximately 80% of market share. Currently, there are over 70 banks operating in the Netherlands including 49 foreign banks. The big three Dutch banks are ING, Rabobank and ABN AMRO. De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) is the central bank of the country. Below is a list of the largest and best banks in the Netherlands. The top five Dutch banks hold combined assets of around €2.2 trillion.

ING Bank

ING Bank N.V., headquartered in Amsterdam, is the largest Dutch bank in terms of total assets. It is an international financial services provider with over 59,000 employees in 40 countries. It provides a wide array of retail, wholesale and investment banking services to more than 38 million customers worldwide. The company is the market leader in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.

Rabobank

Rabobank, based in Utrecht, is the second largest Dutch bank in terms of total assets. It is a cooperative banking group operating across all financial markets in the country. It provides a comprehensive range of products and services through 146 domestic retail branches and 84 local Rabobanks. It also has an international presence in 36 countries with a focus on the food and agri sector.

ABN AMRO

ABN AMRO Bank N.V., founded in 1991, is the third largest bank in the Netherlands with more than 5 million retail customers. The company's business areas include Personal and Private Banking, Commercial Banking, and Corporate & Institutional Banking. The Bank offers current and savings accounts, personal and business loans, mortgages, car, home and life insurance, investments, credit cards, online banking, wealth management, tailor-made payment solutions and other services. BNG Bank

BNG Bank N.V. NWB Bank

Nederlandse Waterschapsbank N.V. (NWB Bank), established in 1954, is a national promotional bank with a focus on water and sustainability. It provides short-term and long-term finance to local authorities, provinces and public institutions. It is the fifth largest Dutch bank in terms of total assets and one of the most cost-efficient financial institutions under the supervision of ECB.

De Volksbank

De Volksbank NV is a Dutch retail bank offering deposit products, credit cards, personal and home loans, insurance, investments, payment services, and online banking to individuals and SMEs. The company operates under various brands comprising SNS, ASN Bank, BLG Wonen and RegioBank. De Volksbank was previously known as SNS Bank and received its current name in 2017. NIBC Bank

NIBC Bank N.V. is a Dutch commercial bank established in 1945 and is headquartered in The Hague. Triodos Bank N.V., headquartered in Zeist, is an ethical bank established in 1980. It provides personal, business and private banking services as well as investment management through branches in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Germany and the UK. The company employs approximately 1,600 staff.

Aegon Bank

Aegon Bank N.V. is an online retail bank incorporated and domiciled in the Netherlands. With over 380 employees, it operates mainly under the Knab brand. Achmea Bank
