Manchester Building Society

Manchester Building Society (a trading name of Newcastle Building Society) is a mutual financial services organisation offering a range of savings accounts and payment services. Currently, it doesn’t accept new mortgage applications. The Society was established in 1822 and was the 40th largest building society in the United Kingdom. The company has a portfolio of lifetime mortgages secured on residential property in Spain. This portfolio makes up 16% of overall Group assets. MBS (Mortgages) Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Society. MBS (Property) Ltd, a second subsidiary, was liquidated in 2019. As of December 31, 2022, the society had £178 million in total assets, £136 million in deposits and £132 million in customer loans. With over 40 employees, it serves around 11,000 members. In July 2023, Manchester Building Society merged with Newcastle Building Society.
