Scottish Building Society, headquartered in Edinburgh, is an independent mutual organisation providing a range of financial products including savings accounts, residential mortgage loans and online banking services. It also offers services for intermediaries. The company is the world’s oldest building society still in existence today. It was established in 1848 and today has approximately 36,000 members, about 90 employees (FTE) and six branches. In 2013, it merged with its local competitor Century Building Society. For the year ended 31 January 2024, Scottish Building Society reported profit before tax of £4.0 million, total assets of £741 million, retail deposits of £491 million and mortgage balances of £536 million. The Society is rated with a score of 4.8/5.0 stars based on over 2,000 product reviews, according to Smart Money People research platform as of November 2024.
