Progressive Building Society, headquartered in Belfast, is the largest locally-owned financial institution in Northern Ireland. It has over 88,000 members and provides a range of competitive mortgage and savings products. It also offers online services, home insurance by AXA and solutions for intermediaries. The Society only lends on properties within Northern Ireland. The company was established in 1914 and today employs around 180 people and has 11 offices across Northern Ireland. In 2014, it merged with the City of Derry Building Society. For the year ended 31 December 2023, Progressive Building Society reported net interest income of £35.9 million, profit after tax £11.8 million, total assets of £1.96 billion, customer loans of £1.6 billion and retail deposits of £1.68 billion. The new mortgage lending amounted to £280 million in 2023. Progressive was recognised as a digital champion at a prestigious gala awards ceremony (2024).
